Through the RTT-ELC grant, the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education is sponsoring a study of a new model for North Carolina's Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), also known as the NC Star Rated License. Additionally, North Carolina is leading a group of states to develop a new tool to measure the quality of early care and education programs.

A new report released by the U.S. Secretaries of Education and Health and Human Services details progress from 14 states that were awarded Race to the Top- Early Learning Challenge (RTT-ELC) grants in 2012 and 2013. North Carolina's work is highlighted in the report. View the report here.

North Carolina's Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge grant is supporting UNC-Greensboro and UNC-Wilmington in offering a new emphasis in their early childhood online master's degree programs. UNC-Greensboro is offering an online M. Ed with an emphasis in Early Childhood Leadership and Program Administration and UNC-Wilmington is offering an online M. Ed with an emphasis in Leadership, Policy, and Advocacy in Early Childhood.

North Carolina's Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge grant is partnering with Child Care Resources Inc. to fund the Professional Development Bonus Award, which offers incentives to early learning and development programs  that implement certain policies and practices related to staff professional development. Staff in these programs must also complete specific professional development.
